Toyota Landcrusier 200 series GVM Upgrade

Upgrade your Toyota Landcruiser 200 series from factory 3300kg to 4000kg GVM -or- to 3800kg GVM

GVM Upgrade

Step 1, upgrade your Toyota Landcruiser 200 series to 3800kg GVM (or the new 4000kg GVM) through Second Stage of Manufacture (SSM)

Braked Towing Capacity

Step 2, opt to upgrade through Second Stage of Manufacturing (SSM) and not LS11 code to ensure your braked towing capacity will not decrease

Success

With a 3800kg GVM (or the new 4000kg GVM), an unchanged OE 3500kg brake tow rating & a GCM from 6800kg to 7300kg (or GCM from 6800kg to 7500kg if you opt for 4000kg GVM) you are set up - (if complianced through SSM and not LS11)

Save

Save $550-$660 under the second stage manufacturer (SSM) scheme if GVM upgrade is carried out prior to inital registration point

Note that The GCM (Gross Combined Mass) doesn’t form part of a Lovells GVM Upgrade or noted in Lovells DIT Approval for Second Stage of Manufacture. As mentioned above it is basically governed by the new GVM of the vehicle and the maximum braked towing capacity.

The Original Equipment maximum braked towing capacity for example on the Toyota Landcruiser 200 series is 3500kg. This doesn’t increase nor decrease when our GVM Upgrade is fitted, it remains at 3500kg. Unlike LS11 10% GVM upgrades where the braked towing capacity will decrease - but that is a completely different ball game marketed at vehicles prior to 2005 build dates & vehicles that do not have Second Stage of Manufacturer testing approvals, read more about LS11 vs. SSM here.

Expect approx. 30mm-50mm lift over OE, dependant on weight and location of accessories fitted. Save $550 - $660 if GVM upgrade is done prior to first inital registration point under the second stage manufacturer (SSM) scheme.

LANDCRUISER 200 SERIES LOVELLS GVM / GCM UPGRADE - SUMMARY AND OPTIONS

  • The Landcruiser 200 series Lovells GVM of 3800kg

    • If you have a Lovells 3800kg GVM upgrade your GCM can be increased to 7300kg
    • If you have a Lovells 3800kg GVM upgrade fitted you are eligible to increase your Braked Towing Capacity (BTC) to 4000kg
      • The GCM can be upgraded to 7800kg if you fit the 4000kg Braked Towing Capacity (BTC) upgrade in conjunction with the 3800kg GVM upgrade.
    • A vehicle that already has a Lovells 3800kg GVM upgrade fitted uses different suspension to the newly available Lovells 4000kg Platinum GVM upgrade. To increase a vehicle to 4000kg Platinum GVM that already has a Lovells 3800kg GVM upgrade fitted will require suspension alterations. It cannot be re-certified from 3800kg GVM to 4000kg GVM until the shock absorbers and springs are changed to 4000kg Platinum GVM compliant type.
  • The Landcruiser 200 series Lovells GVM of 4000kg Platinum (CPA 40257/46734)

    • If you have a Lovells 4000kg Platinum GVM upgrade your GCM can be increased to 7500kg
    • If you have a Lovells 4000kg Platinum GVM upgrade fitted you are not eligible to increase your Braked Towing Capacity (BTC) to 4000kg. The maximum Towing Capacity is 3500kg if you have a 4000kg Platinum GVM upgrade fitted.
      • If you require a 4000kg Braked Towing Capacity (BTC) and already have a 4000kg Lovells Platinum GVM upgrade fitted you must revert to 3800kg  GVM suspension followed by certification before you can apply a 4000kg BTC upgrade.
    • The Lovells 4000kg Platinum series GVM shock absorbers feature threaded height adjustable struts and 4 year / 100,000km warranty. The Platinum series shock absorbers have been developed and utilised on armoured vehicles in both the Middle East and USA for over 8 years with great success.
    • The Lovells 4000kg Platinum series GVM upgrade kit comes with an option of four (4) designs of coil springs for greater load/ride quality flexibility and the World famous Germany Technology 46mm bore Mono-Tube shock absorbers
      • FRONT COIL SPRINGS CAN BE SPECIFIED BASED ON THE FOLLOWING:
        • TFR-121- Vehicle has minimal load bearing front accessories and axle capacity is less than 1500kg
        • TFR-123- Vehicle has load bearing accessories such as steel bull bar, winch, dual batteries etc and axle capacity is greater than 1500kg
      • REAR COIL SPRINGS CAN BE SPECIFIED BASED ON THE FOLLOWING:

        • TRR-122HDAV- Vehicle has load bearing accessories such as long range fuel tank, rear steel bar, drawer systems and its primary use is for towing. For axle capacities greater than 1600kg.
      • We suggest having your vehicle weighed with our calibrated weigh bridge prior to ordering.
  • The Landcruiser 200 series Lovells Braked Towing Capacity (BTC) of 4000kg

    • If you have a Lovells 4000kg Braked Towing Capacity (BTC) upgrade already fitted to your vehicle in conjunction with the Lovells 3800kg GVM, it is not possible to increase your GVM from 3800kg to 4000kg without loosing your 4000kg BTC.
      • The 4000kg BTC would need to be de-rated to 3500kg BTC to allow the 3800kg GVM to be increased to 4000kg GVM.
      • The 7800kg GCM would need to be de-rated to 7500kg GCM to allow the 3800kg GVM to be increased to 4000kg GVM.

IS IT TRUE? CAN THE BRAKED TOWING CAPACITY BE UPGRADED ON A 200 SERIES?

Yes this is certainly the case, and the Braked Towing Capacity increase is SSM approved. Not only can the GVM be increased on the Toyota Landcruiser 200 series, but the Braked Towing Capacity can also be increased from 3500kg to 4000kg. Client details

  • End user name
  • End user address (not a PO box)

Financials

  • $1,000.00 deposit

Finer details

  • Is old suspension to be disposed of? There is no resale value on OEM suspension and it cannot be used as spare parts as it will deem your upgrade as non-compliant until GVM certified parts are re-fitted. If your old suspension has already been lifted but is more than 3 years old or 60,000km you likely will find it difficult to get a worthwhile resale
  • Are there any future plans for additional front axle constant loads (i.e. bullbar or winch). It is suggested to be fitted whilst we are carrying out the upgrade (or prior to). This is so the front spring platform height can be adjusted correctly. Altering the spring platform height at a later date can be costly. This is not relevant if vehicle already has bullbar / winch, in which case answer not applicable.
  • Does vehicle have airbags fitted to the rear axle? Depending on vehicle current ride height these may be too short & not re-usable. If yes, are we to replace, reuse or decomission?
    • If vehicle does not have a true 2 inch lift already fitted the airbags will be too short and not salvagable
    • Warning: if airbags are over 18months old they are not suggested to be re-used as the airbag will have moulded into shape with the old coil spring which can result in leakage. In some examples the airbags are impossible to remove from the old coil due to swelling. This applies to both light duty and heavy duty airbags. There is no warranty provided for leakage post-recycling as per these age suggestions.
    • If decommissioning the OEM bump stops will need to be refitted (applies to utes only i.e. Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max)
    • Always check with your insurance company as some do not cover a vehicle at all that has bellows airbags fitted
  • Provide in detail how you heard or found out about BAM Garage

After upgrade

  • Change of particulars form to be lodged with state transport authority (provided by BAM Garage).
  • Notify your insurance company of the upgrade. It should not affect your premium, under the rare condition that it does it may be worth looking at a different insurance provider.
  • Suspension to be retensioned within 0,500km. Applies to both coil sprung vehicles and leaf sprung vehicles. (0.5 hour labour charge applies).
  • After first suspension retension the ubolts are to be tensioned again within another 1,000km-1,500km. Applies only to leaf sprung vehicles. (0.5 hour labour charge applies).
