Toyota Landcruiser 79 series Braked Towing Upgrade from 3500kg to 4000kg
UPDATE: 0-4-6 Federal legislation has prompted the Landcruiser 79 towing upgrade development to be siezed
Toyota Landcruiser 79 series Braked Towing Upgrade to 4000kg 09/2016-on
The factory braked towing capacity (BTC) on the 79 series Landcruiser has been in development to upgrade the BTC from 3500kg to 4000kg. This was set to be the very first Federally approved Towing upgrade in Australia for a Toyota Landcruiser 79 series. The BTC upgrade to 4000kg was undergoing field testing for a GCM revision of 7800kg (min) for both Federal and State compliance. Unfortunately the development for this product has completely siezed due to 0-4-6 Federal legislation implemented in June 2018 disallowing this. Specifically 0-4-6 legislation states;
''10.6 The towing capacity of a light vehicle expressed as Gross Combination Mass (GCM) rating or Rated Towing Capacity or Maximum Braked Towing Mass rating must not exceed the value set by thecomprising Commonwealth, State and Territory representativesfirst stage manufacturer. Second stage manufacturers are not permitted to increase the towing capacity as part of an SSM IPA that results in GVM upgrade.''
